Botleigh old north road portrays a fictional steam shed on the southern region in the twilight days of steam. attention has been given to show a run down, derelict environment typical of mid 1960s.. The layout is a fictional setting and includes a station setting with goods shed, engine shed with sidings and small lake. the second board is more of an industrial setting with a modern image look to it, including a diesel locomotive depot, fueling stage with pump house and storage tank, crew room/office building and coal yard.. The ideal shed layout was of the "double ended" type which allowed the locomotive to enter the depot by an entrance road, travel to the coaling plant and then to the water crane. at the ash pits, the engine would have it's smokebox emptied and it's fire cleaned..
Small engine shed query - posted in layout & track design: my plan is to have a small-ish two track engine shed. each track would/could hold a single 0-6-0 tender loco. now i would like to incorporate either an ash pit or an inspection pit, or both.. Shunting layout engine shed i wanted to have a small engine shed on my layout, so that i could include a water and coaling facility for shunting operations but also so that i could add some good lineside features.. The design was for a four foot by one foot baseboard, give or take a couple of inches either way, with the goods yard at one end and the small engine shed and coaling stage at the other, the latter to mask the exit to a fiddle yard and imaginary station off board..
